Wells Embodies Truth and Honor
Honor Council President Devin Wells ’26 has spent his time at MUS leading in a way that often draws little attention but leaves a lasting impact. Through years of service on the Honor Council, Wells has upheld the principles of truth and honor that define the school community.
His steady leadership, professionalism, and commitment to doing what is right have made him a trusted presence among students and faculty alike.
At the 2025 Special Awards ceremony, Wells received the Alexander Wellford Leadership Award. While presenting the honor, English Instructor Jeff Posson ’03 praised him for his honorable example.
“I am privileged tonight to present an award to a young man who has endeavored greatly in this quiet work of individual goodness ever since he entered MUS,” Posson said. “This award is meant as a recognition and declaration of thanks to this young man who through his actions has moved MUS in a better direction.”
Posson highlighted Wells’ excellence in every area of school life. Academically, he has earned Dean’s List and Faculty Honor Roll recognition each year. On the football field, he has been an award-winning defensive lineman and was unanimously selected by teammates as a team captain. Head Coach Mark Chubb described Wells as someone who “sets the standard for integrity, discipline, and leadership.”
Posson emphasized that Wells’ greatest strengths go beyond awards or accolades.
“This young man embodies the most important intangibles desired in an MUS student: honor and goodness,” Posson said. “Those are the tools of a true leader.”
Wells’ leadership has perhaps been most visible through his long-standing work on the Honor Council. Crosby Chair of Christian Ethics and Council Advisor Jonathan Jones commended Wells during the annual transition of student leaders, noting the responsibility that comes with serving as council president.
“For the past year Devin Wells has served you well,” Jones said. “He has performed his duties professionally and respectfully. I have relied on him repeatedly to investigate allegations of cheating, which he did in a quick but thorough manner. I couldn’t have asked for a better president to work with this year.”
Wells’ service on the Honor Council spans nearly his entire MUS career, having served continuously since seventh grade. He received a school medallion honoring his service, and his name will be added to the plaque recognizing former Honor Council presidents.
Through his character, consistency, and commitment to principle, Wells has embodied what it means to lead with truth and honor. His legacy is the example he has set for fellow Owls to emulate.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Demar O. Wells, Sr., he will attend the University of Tennessee.
